Drivers can expect to see Los Angeles DUI Checkpoints in the area this weekend, including at least one checkpoint in Studio City and another checkpoint in the Southern Los Angeles region. According to press releases, the Los Angeles Police Department has already confirmed sobriety and driver's license checkpoints at the following locations:
- Friday June 25: Crenshaw Boulevard at West 57th Street in Los Angeles, 8:00p.m. -2:00 a.m.
- Saturday June 26: Ventura Boulevard at Big Oak Drive in Studio City, 8:00 p.m. -2:00 a.m.
The LAPD states that the department is conducting checkpoints in order to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers and hit and run collisions. The purpose of checkpoints is not only to arrest drunk drivers but also to provide awareness about traffic safety and the dangers of drunk driving. The Valley neighborhoods and Southern Los Angeles regions have particularly been hit hard with drunk driving accidents this year.
Even with California's strict guidelines and restrictions on DUI checkpoints, individuals are sometimes wrongfully arrested for driving under the influence at Los Angeles sobriety checkpoints. This is why it's so important to know your legal rights when proceeding through a checkpoint. We cover the constraints that California law enforcers have when conducting DUI checkpoints in an earlier blog post titled "Los Angeles DUI Attorneys Analyze Sobriety Checkpoints." If you feel that law enforcement officers didn't go through the right procedures to conduct a checkpoint, you always have the legal right to a Los Angeles DUI attorney. Attorneys can help people avoid a DUI conviction and provide proper defense in court.
